Milanese Breastplate
The lower portions of the breastplate and backplate should be constructed as shown in the bottom left diagram, with the wide and narrow bands connected to the main plate and to each other with leather straps on the inside. This will enable them to "float", and flex more freely than if they were connected plate-to-plate without the leather hinge. The tassets (not connected on the top illustrations) are hip protection, attached at the sides, and are buckled to the bottom of the breast and backplates (one strap connects to the breast, while the other connects to the back), to the straps shown on the top illustrations. The besagew are round discs of steel which protect the armpits in the front only. The dotted lines indicate areas of the disc where the metal should be raised.
