This
timeline is by no means complete (I don't think I have enough bandwidth
on this website to make a "complete" timeline of Medieval history!),
but it should supply a working representation of the Middle Ages,
starting with the fall of Rome and ending with the beginning of
England's Tudor Dynasty.
Some other noteworthy events in Medieval History...
- 445: After killing his brother Bleda, Attila becomes sole
leader of the huns
- 476: Part-Hun General Odoacer leads a mercenarr revolt in
the Roman army, defeats Roman forces at Pavia, and assumes control
of Italy. This is generally regarded as the end of the Roman Empire
- 516(?): Many historians believe this to be the beginning
of the semi-legendary King Arthur's leadership of the Roman-Briton
defenders in southern Britain.
- 534-553: The Italian (Gothic) War
- 650: Swedes first invade the land now named for them
- 717: Charles (The Hammer) Martel suceeds to leader of the
Franks
- 789: Vikings make their first raid of Britain
- 954: Tens of thousands of Magyars bring devestation to Bavaria,
France, Italy, and the Drava and Danube Valleys in the Great Magyar
Raid
- Early 1100's: First known depiction of the Trebuche
- 1137: Normans establish control over southern Italy and Sicily
- 1174: Saladin becomes ruler of Egypt
- 1182: Jews expelled from France
- 1233-83: Teutonic Knights begin their conquest of Prussia
- 1290: Jews expelled from England
- 1279: Kublai Khan founds the Yuan dynasty
- 1298: William Wallace (yes, I know, we all love William Wallace)
defeated at Falkirk
- 1326: First documented evidence of guns in Europe in Florentine
and English manuscripts
- 1408: Hand-held firearms used in Europe
- 1419-1436: Hussite Wars
- 1447: Tartars invade Russia
