welcome to new Freeholders

"What is a Mountain Freehold?"

Mountain Freehold is a shire in the East Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a non-profit medieval recreation group. Freehold territory includes most of northwest Vermont. Many of our activities take place in the Burlington/ Underhill/ St. Albans/ Hinesburg area. We have approximately 50 members, and you can contact most of us by email by using our online Domesday List.

"I am ..."

New Freeholders should make themselves known to the Chatelaine, Mistress Ardenia ARuadh ( chatelaine@mountainfreehold.org ), or to the Deputy Chatelaine, Baroness Ghislaine ( ghislaine@mountainfreehold.org ). The chatelaine is the officer in charge of greeting and helping new members. As a courtesy, contact the Seneschal too. Pomestnik Iustin Branov ( seneschal@mountainfreehold.org ) would be happy to meet you. His title, by the way, means "Lord" in Russian. The seneschal is the "club president." Other Freehold officers can be found on the Officers List and many of our members can be found on the Domesday List (our version of a membership list).

You can use our website to find out about our meetings, practices, and events and feasts.

Newsgroups

Mountain Freehold has an online news group - for announcements, gossip, and friendly chatter. To sign up for the email list, which also includes announcements about meetings, practices, and nearby events, go to the SCA-Freehold list and follow the instructions. If you prefer, just drop a note to Duchess Marieke ( marieke@mountainfreehold.org ) and she can sign you up.

"What Should I Do Next?"

If you plan to attend any of our medieval feasts, you will need a costume (we call it "garb") and a set of "feast gear" that includes a plate, goblet or mug, knife, spoon, bowl, candle and holder, and napkin. But don't worry - if you let us know ahead of time, we can loan you the necessary items until you can get your own. Once you have settled on some areas of interest, you will start collecting more specialized gear such as archery equipment, armor, or craft supplies. If you plan to stay overnight at a camping event, you will need a tent or pavilion and other camping items. (Many of us use 20th century camping equipment, until we can upgrade to more historical items.) In general, you will notice that we *strive* for authenticity, but we are far from attaining it. Mostly, we want to have fun in a vaguely medieval setting. Everything you can do to improve the setting is appreciated, but none of us are professional re-enactors!
